Whitfield is a residential area in the north of Dundee, Scotland, built in the 1960s to accommodate the city's expanding population. The housing was low rise, deck access flats, built using the "Skarne" prefabrication system. The area was chosen for the Scottish Office programme New Life for Urban Scotland and underwent significant redevelopment between 1989 and 1995. In 2004, it was identified as one of the most deprived areas in Scotland. Whitfield had two high rise tower blocks of flats, both constructed in 1969, but these were demolished in 2003 and 2004. The area is currently undergoing further redevelopment, and the population is on the rise. Whitfield is home to two secondary schools, Braeview Academy and St Paul's Roman Catholic Academy School, as well as two primary schools, Whitfield Primary School and Newfields Primary School.
