Business Description
Treasurer's House in York was acquired by the National Trust in 1930 and was the first house to be given to the National Trust complete with a collection. The house, originally owned by Frank Green, a wealthy Edwardian industrialist and collector, features thirteen rooms designed in the style of different historic periods to house his extensive collection of antiques. The house has a rich history, having been inhabited by a variety of characters throughout the centuries, including Roman soldiers, medieval clergymen, an 18th century female writer, and even royalty. The Treasurer's House is maintained by staff and volunteers, and the National Trust encourages a positive and respectful environment on their Facebook page, with a strict moderation policy in place. The house is open to the public, and visitors can also enjoy the free cafe and garden.
