Business Description

The Brixton Pound (B£) is a complementary currency designed to support Brixton businesses and encourage local trade and production. Launched in 2009, it circulates within the community, supporting smaller shops and traders and increasing local trade and community connections. The B£ aims to protect jobs, support diversity and resilience in the local economy, and raise awareness of the local Brixton economy. The Brixton Pound Cafe, opened in 2016, operates on a pay-what-you-feel basis and sources food from local surplus, supporting food waste and food poverty reduction in the area. As part of the Brixton Pound Community Interest Company, the cafe is a not-for-profit, with all revenue supporting the local grants scheme Brixton Fund.
