Business Description
Saint John Cassian (ca. 360 – 435) was a Christian theologian known for his mystical writings and is celebrated in both the Western and Eastern Churches. Born in Scythia Minor, he and an older friend traveled to Palestine and then to the desert of Scete in Egypt. Cassian and Germanus fled to Constantinople, where they appealed to the Patriarch of Constantinople for protection. After being ordained a deacon, Cassian founded an Egyptian-style monastery in southern Gaul, near Marseille, and his writings influenced St. Benedict. He died in Marseille in 435 and is recognized as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Churches and the Roman Catholic Church. His relics are kept in the Monastery of St Victor in Marseilles.
