St George's Cathedral, Southwark, originally built in 1848 by Provost Thomas Doyle, serves as the Mother Church for the Archdiocese of Southwark. The Cathedral, designed by the great Victorian Architect, Pugin, was extensively damaged during the Second World War but was rebuilt and re-opened in 1958. Today, it is home to a large and diverse congregation and continues to be a place of worship, respite, and community for the cosmopolitan area it serves. As the seat of the Archbishop of Southwark, St George's Cathedral remains an important and historic landmark in London.
