In 1988, the library and archives of the North Devon Athenaeum moved to the newly built North Devon Library and Record Office, joining forces with the North Devon Record Office and Local Studies Library. This created a center for researching local and family history of North Devon, providing a one-stop location for all relevant resources. The museum items are still on loan to the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon.
