Business Description
The Norman Lockyer Observatory, named after Sir Norman Lockyer, was established as a Solar Physics Observatory in 1881 and later became the Hill Observatory near Sidmouth. Following Lockyer's death, it became known as the Norman Lockyer Observatory and is now a center for public science education. The Observatory is run by the Norman Lockyer Observatory Society, which has a membership of around 400 and aims to further members' interests in astronomy, radio, and science, as well as maintain and develop the Observatory's facilities for public access. Additionally, the Society hosts the annual South West Astronomy Fair during the Sidmouth Folk Week, featuring distinguished lecturers and telescope tours.
