The MAE Foundation is a new humanitarian and secular charity formed by a group of musicians and others who recognize the power of music to help border refugees. The foundation aims to focus international attention on the plight of Burmese refugees, raise funds to improve conditions in the border camps, provide musical instruments and teachers to children in the camps, and support the creation of workshops for refugees to make and export musical instruments. The foundation has set a goal to bring the first 1000 musical instruments into the camps by the end of 2011. The refugees, trapped between two countries, are unable to leave the camps to find work and are in need of support.
