IFSMA | International Federation of Shipmasters' Associations

IFSMA, the International Federation of Shipmasters' Associations, is a non-profit, apolitical organization dedicated to representing the interests of serving Shipmasters. With over 16,000 members from about 65 different countries, IFSMA upholds international standards of professional competence for seafarers and works to ensure safe operational practices, protection of the marine environment, and safety of life and property at sea. The organization maintains its headquarters in London, close to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and has gained Consultative Status at IMO and Special List status at the International Labour Organization (ILO). IFSMA's key objectives include maintaining and enhancing the high international standing of Shipmasters' qualifications and training standards, providing support to Member Associations on professional matters, and representing members at external bodies to protect their interests. Additionally, IFSMA seeks to improve its image, enhance its reputation as a premier source of information on maritime matters, and organize campaigns to progress its policies and protect members' interests.
