Hoover Building

The Hoover Building, located in Perivale, west London, is a prime example of Art Deco architecture designed by Wallis, Gilbert and Partners. Originally built for The Hoover Company in 1933, it was expanded in 1938 with the addition of Building No 7. During World War II, the factory manufactured electrical equipment for aircraft and tanks, while also continuing to produce cleaners at a reduced output. The buildings were camouflaged and repainted to avoid being targeted by German aircraft, and an evacuation scheme was organized for the children of employees, who were sent to live with Hoover staff in Canada.
