Glossop Sailing Club was formed in 1970 by a group of local enthusiasts who approached Manchester Corporation to sail on one of the reservoirs in the Longdendale valley. The club began at Bottoms Reservoir and later moved to Torside Reservoir in 1984. Since then, the club has continuously improved its facilities and has focused on improving training facilities, particularly for junior sailors. The club also offers windsurfing training and has worked closely with regional and national RYA initiatives. Glossop Sailing Club is a welcoming club with good facilities and enthusiastic members, offering dinghy sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding.
