CARA, a registered charity, was established in 1933 as a rescue mission for German academics forced out of their posts by the Nazis. With the support of UK universities, CARA helped over two thousand academics find new opportunities, many of whom went on to have remarkable careers. Over the years, CARA's focus has broadened to support academics in various regions facing discrimination, persecution, and violence. Today, CARA continues to be led by UK academics working on behalf of fellow academics in desperate need, providing assistance and support to ensure their specialist knowledge and abilities can continue to be used for the benefit of the public.
